11-Year-Old Rachael Gordon Sells Hannah Montana Tickets to Help Send Belmont Jr. Pee Wee Team to Super Bowl
It takes a lot of hard work for a team to make it to the Pop Warner Super Bowl: hard work, determination, skill to name a few. But for many teams it also requires some assistance for others to help cover the expenses of travelling to DisneyWorld to compete in the national championships.
For the Belmont Optimist (NC) Red Raiders Jr. Pee Wee team, that assistance came in part from an 11-year old Red Raiders Cheerleader, who demonstrated an extreme act of kindness to help "her boys" play in the big game.
Rachael Gordon, a cheerleader for the Belmont Optimist Pop Warner program in the Greater Gaston League, gave up her tickets to a Hannah Montana concert in order to raise money to help send her team to Florida.
With a tear in her eyes, Rachael told her parents that she wanted to donate the four tickets to the sold out concert, which by the way is her favorite singer, and use the money to help send the Belmont team to the Pop Warner Super Bowl.
The Belmont Optimist program held a raffle
to sell the four concert tickets, selling over 400 tickets equalling about $4,000. The winner was
drawn on November 27 by Rachael, and the the tickets were given in
person by her to the winner, Suzie Emerson.
A choked up Belmont head coach Kevin Muse was touched by the generosity of young Rachael.
"This means a lot to us, yes it does" said Muse. "My two little boys go to school here (with Rachael), and I just hope one day that they understand the heart that little girl has on her. It really touches my heart to know that she touched so many lives by the unselfishness that she has."
Thanks to the help of Rachael Gordon and others, the Belmont Optimist Pop Warner Jr. Pee Wee was able to raise enough money to send the team down to the Pop Warner Super Bowl. And despite losing a heartbreaking overtime game 8-6 in the consolation round, just being there wouldn't have been possible without the extreme act of kindness from 11-year-old cheerleader Rachel Gordon.
Now that is what Pop Warner is all about!
